The message of the healing power of laughter has hit me in the face so many times lately that I think someone’s giving me a gentle nudge to write about it. I read a story recently about a lady who beat cancer with a certain salad and funny movies. I also read a section in a book about how laughter can be a valuable teaching tool with small children who are dealing with fear issues. Finally the reason I sent myself the note to write this blog was that I sat next to a man who was watching a funny movie on a plane, a movie he told me he had seen umpteen million times, and he still laughed out loud and made people around him, including me, laugh.
Since then, because of my serious nature, I have tried to put myself in a more playful mood. I have made it a point to get together with friends who make me laugh. I also keep a file of funny emails, and I have started to review a few of them when I need it. I have had some belly laughs as a result, and I have been paying attention to the after-effect.
I have noticed that I feel lighter, more focused, less easily frustrated and more effective. It has also been good for my fatherly connection to my two young children and my wife. Laughter is healing and we can have an intention of creating it more often. There are tons of ways to manifest laughter in your life.
I was once on hold with the IRS, so I pulled up YouTube and watched the practical jokes section and laughed my butt off while on hold. When I finally was connected, I was friendly and light with the person on the other end of the line and found a very good solution to a sticky situation.
Put yourself in situations that allow you to cut loose and bust a gut. Inspire yourself through laughter often, and as Zig Ziglar said, “People often say that inspiration doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.” I say the same of laughter. Let me know how it goes with you. I’d love to hear from you.
