The One Man Make-A-Wish Foundation

In ONO I talk a lot about how we have the ability to fulfill a Higher Purpose during our lifetimes.  Higher Purposes are goals which involve accomplishing things greater than yourself and your own personal fulfillment.   To champion a cause, to give something away, to change someone’s life—tasks like these fall in the Higher Purpose category.

The intent of this blog is to inspire you to figure out how you can make this choice possible for yourself, sooner, not later.  The inspiration for this came from a conversation I had with someone on the marketing team of the Carolina Panthers.  He told me that his job allowed him to fulfill the dying wishes of some people.  He called himself the “One Man Make-a-Wish Foundation.”  I could tell how huge it was for him as he told me the story.  I saw the goose bumps.

I would ask you to pause and think of ways you can be of service in your circle.  How can you make a difference?  Acts of service could be lifetime endeavors or simple things like volunteering to run an errand or offering to babysit a young family’s kids so that the parents can enjoy a much needed night out.  My wife and I would put that in the need category right now.  For us, a date night is hard to create without someone’s help.

He mentioned that the book ONO had the chance to be of service to people as well, and I felt so validated that someone would recognize my intent in writing the book.  I’m humbled to be acknowledged in that way.  He is right, ONO is my higher purpose, and I haven’t thought about it in that way for awhile.  It’s easy to have the tunnel vision that life can create, and I know what it’s like because it happens to me too.

Look for ways that you can be of service, and act on them.  Figure out what your higher purpose is.  It might just be that life-changing moment for you.
