Worry

Worry is a feeling that we all experience. For most of us, if it isn’t fleeting, it doesn’t serve us. The entrepreneurial world is full of opportunity for worry and is a worthy topic of discussion.

I have a strong Christian buddy and I was telling him how worried I became if a deal I was involved with didn’t go a certain way. He asked, “Marc, do you realize worry is a sin?” Now, in my spiritual walk I don’t really focus on words like sin. Right and wrong are a better fit for me, but he made the statement with such conviction I had to ask for more information.

He explained that when you worry, you are doubting Gods will for you. As a recovering alcoholic I have had to surrender my life to Gods’ will in order to maintain sobriety. I realized that he was right, I wasn’t following my number one rule. This, by the way, is a consistent theme with most religions in the world.

Ever since, when I feel a persistent sense of worry I pray for acceptance, wisdom and to stay present to the process. I believe for you, as it does for me, this lets you settle into productive management of the facts that have led to the worry and solutions present themselves. When I’m there and I realize I’ve done all I can, I say my famous statement, “it is what it is” and I go play with my kids and wife with worry replaced by peace
