Wealth is a Dirty Word
Recently I was speaking to a friend, someone who looks at the “creation of wealth” as a series of dirty words. I can relate to this opinion because when I was young, I was taught to think this way as well. However, the fact that she never overcame this false belief, combined with the reality that she has never created wealth for herself, puts her in a place in her life where she is now suffering the consequence of wishing that she had. Her false beliefs about wealth closed the door for her early on, and now she must challenge that belief to move forward.
My advice to her was to write down a list of the things that she would do if she became wealthy. The moment I told her that, she already had a list in mind of things she would do which would be “greater than herself.” She wants to teach her special skill set to kids and she wants to make a difference in the environment in her own way, to lead by example.
I asked her, “If wealth created this short list for you, would it still be a dirty word?” Her answer was, “No.” My point to her was to be aware that wealth is only one of many things we can possess as humans and as such, we can and choose to do good things or bad things with it.. Wealth itself isn’t bad or good. It’s what’s done with it that counts.
When I speak on this topic I find that there is a group of people who “just don’t want to play.” I also find that it is those people who later wish that they had. If this is describing you I would challenge you to be open-minded and look at changing the way you think about wealth creation and the things it can bring to your life. You must first handle your beliefs. Then, I can help you with the next step. Good luck and feel free to comment with any direct questions you have regarding this topic.
