Trash Novel Wisdom
I was reading in one of my trash novels the other day and came across a good quote. One of the characters said, “There will always be problems in business, the secret is to look at them as challenges.” Although I love the simplicity in this statement, it deserves a little more meat on the bone.
Business in general can become a “fire fighting” session and when you add on the responsibility of trying to be a 100% husband and parent it can be really overwhelming. Finding peace while you’re beating down the flames is the key. As the quote above suggests, it’s the perspective you take that can make that process enjoyable rather than tedious.
The simple difference in how you look at a issue can make all the difference. Even changing the wording from “problem” to “challenge” makes it feel better. We are affected by our feelings and how we associate those feelings with tasks at hand have to be considered.
If I approach a task with the drudgery of solving another problem as opposed to looking at conquering a challenge, the latter perspective will always get better results. On top of that, I come home to the people I love as a conqueror instead of a garbage man. Always be mindful the impact of your metal perspective when approaching a challenge. The ripple affect can work for you in more ways than one.
