The Three Reasons Family Makes Me a Better Businessperson

Three key components to any business person’s success are good use of time, motivation, and wise delegation.  As a Family First Entrepreneur, all three of these are even more important as they relate back to the most important thing for us—time.

Good use of time, for me, is all about an action list that has 24-48 hour deadlines.  When the pressure is on, we all act efficiently and with purpose.  Why not create that on a daily basis by writing down tasks with short timelines.  This also breaks down bigger tasks into smaller pieces and makes them less overwhelming.

Delegation is a key to any entrepreneur, but for Family First Entrepreneurs, it becomes more critical as this is a way to recapture time while maintaining productivity.  Determine what you are best at and hire or contract out the rest, if possible.  This will allow you to shine in your area and oversee the shining of others.  Overall, you will save time and produce more.

Motivation has to be present to handle the down days and to keep your eye on the ball in any business.  Money only lasts so long as a motivational factor. We all have those days where the money doesn’t matter anymore because it’s over shadowed by the butt kicking we are getting.

This is where my family kicks in and supplies motivation for me to be my best.  When I’m at my best as a entrepreneur, following all the “Rules of ONO,” I can use my time well.  When motivation goes, so does productivity and we waste time that could be time spent with the people we love.

When I am making business decisions, as I write in ONO, I make sure to remember that family drives my business—not that my business drives my family.  This keeps me in check, keeps me family first and makes me a better businessperson.
