Salesmanship
The world of Entrepreneurism is full of salesmanship. If you are an Entrepreneur and you say you can’t sell, you will always be handicapped in your success. I am in the process of building a seminar that breaks down sales for those who feel they struggle and want to learn more.
A very respected friend of mine, Justin Foster, read somewhere that only a small portion of the public has the “power of woo,” or in plane English, “the gift of sales.” If you don’t have that and you want it, the good news is that it can be learned. I find this is a consistent gap for people in business and there is a need for more solid information for people out there.
I’ll take this opportunity to share one of my most powerful skills. Always remember, “they don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” Talk with new customers about things they are passionate about, not just what your selling. I commonly ask about kids, family or what they do for fun. This always opens up opportunity for mutuality and the building blocks for trust. Many times this is all it takes to establish that you care and then the “purchase facilitation” can begin.
It’s amazing to me how often the only difference between a yes and a no is the relationship you have been able to strike with your customer.
