Randy Pausch, an Inspiration to us all

Randy Pausch, a man who opened the world’s eyes with his “Last Lecture,” died today of cancer at the age of 47. Randy was an inspiration for me in many ways, but especially in regard to two main topics which he spoke about.

The first was the incredible, over the top connection he had with his children.  That love he had for them was evident and when he spoke about them it often brought me to tears.  If we had a world of parents that felt the same way as Randy, who put their families first, this would be a different place.

Secondly, he spoke about how a proper apology should be delivered. Maintaining relationships is so important and giving an apology when needed is vital to a healthy relationship.  Randy shared that an apology should be given in a way that involves ownership of the “wrong” followed by an offer of “restitution.”  I respect that approach deeply.

Randy was a true family first man of high moral character.  He spent his last days spreading a message of love and kindness.  He truly left his mark and I believe that he fulfilled his “Higher purpose” that I speak of in my book.

I say this to Randy as a final note, “Thanks for showing up, you made a difference.”
