Pain or Empowerment

I read this article on a local news site and it got me thinking.

With articles like this one around every corner in today’s economy, I am reminded of a quote out of my book ONO: “When the pain is greater than the fear, you will move.”  The “pain” of this economy is causing movement, and it is the kind of movement that has always made this country great.  During my lifetime I have been moved many times by pain, and I’m sure some of you can identify.

I refuse to stay in the “boo hoo” of today’s news.  I am seeing opportunity and seeking solutions.  This is where I’m at my best.  I suggest you embrace the pain of today and use it as the motivation to create your future.  An added benefit to your moving while someone else is whining about what’s happening is that it puts one of your competitors a half-step behind.

While I say this, I also must acknowledge the need to clear your head of the negative feelings associated with the current time.  The way I do it is by talking to someone who can listen.  I allow the opportunity to be heard help me sweep away the negative feelings.  I have people in my life who let me vent, and so do you.

Next step?  Get on the solution train.  Pain is a normal part of life.  When things hurt, we move away and adjust.  Family First Entrepreneurs have to stay away from sitting in pain.  The process of creating solutions restores hope.  This is true in both our business and our family lives.  Hope is a fundamental part of forward growth, financial as well as personal.

I see pain as empowerment, and you should too.  If you do, the answer is always around the corner.  Embrace pain and turn it into motivation.  Good luck, and don’t let the people stewing in the pity pot get you down.  In tough economic times there are always folks heavily invested in getting together and talking about the ways they are failing, and why it’s someone else’s fault.  Right now, more than ever, the power of association is critical.  Choose your associates carefully.
